The Business of Pilates

This workshop is hosted by a STOTT PILATES certified instructor/studio owner, and a professional bookkeeper.

Certification courses teach you how to teach Pilates, this workshop teaches you how to build a career. We’ll break down what new instructors actually need to know, so you can start your career informed and confident. The Business of Pilates Workshop will bridge the gap between certification and career with practical, real-world guidance.

 

  • Transitioning into professional teaching, your job options

  • How to land your first teaching job, what to expect in an interview/audition

  • Employee vs. contractor realities, whether self-employment is right for you, and how to protect yourself when entering the workforce, what insurance coverage you need

  • What fair pay looks like in the industry right now, navigating pay expectations, GST, and invoicing

Postural Analysis Review

     This hands-on workshop, developed by the Merrithew® team, outlines the importance of postural analysis in programming STOTT PILATES® workouts. Discuss the differences between static and dynamic posture and consider how each affects exercise choices and modifications necessary. Review postural theory relating to the effect of certain postures on muscle length and strength and actively practice postural analysis.

  • Review the steps in conducting a formal postural analysis

  • Learn how to identify muscular imbalances as they relate to faulty posture

  • Practice locating bony landmarks and palpating structures

  • Understand how postural issues play into exercise programming
